Nauvoo Part 2

My computer ate my pictures of our Nauvoo trip.  Somehow they ended up in the recycle bin.  But Nate saved them for me and now I can finish posting about Nauvoo.
We visited Carthage Jail, where Joseph and Hyrum Smith were martyred.  This is the room they were in when the mob burst in.

This is the window Joesph fell from.  The hole in the door and the one on the edge are from bullets that the mob shot through first.  Hyrum was shot with one of those.

This is the outside of the jail.  On the left are statues of Joseph and Hyrum.

It was a lovely day.  We could feel the spirit testify to us that these wonderful men of God were righteous men.
We were able to attend the temple twice while in Nauvoo.  Nate took the three older children to do baptisms one morning.  The next morning Nate and I went.  It was a great experience.
My goal in planning this trip was to provide opportunities for our children to learn more aobut the history of our church, the strength and faith of the early saints, and to gain a stronger testimony of Joseph Smith and themarvelous work he did as the restorer of the Book of Mormon and the gospel of Jesus Christ on this earth.  Aspen and Toby came last summer with the youth of the stake.  And Aspen complained a bit about coming again.  But I think that coming without the attention of friends and boys, instead being here with family, made it a more meaningful experience.  I hope it is one that they will remember always.  I know that my testimony was strengthened and my gratitude for the early saints' tribulation and strength and faith has increased.

If you get a chance to go to Nauvoo, take it.  We loved our trip.
