Weekend

Vickie and Earl (Nate's parents) came to visit last weekend.  Nate was ordained a High Priest.  (Now has to officially sit with the old men in church!)  So we did a little sight seeing while they were here.

We went to check on the progress at the new Kansas City, MO temple site.  I heard that the open house is supposed to be next month.  I hope so.  It is a beautiful temple.

As we were driving around the temple Hazel began to sing, "I love to see the temple, I'll go inside someday."  Made my heart melt.  Glad to know that some of the things we are trying to teach are sinking in.
Isaac KCMO temple
Isaac is growing up.  Getting bigger everyday.  He makes me laugh everyday.  Then pull out my hair too.  But mostly it's good.

After seeing the temple we went to Oklahoma Joe's for barbecue.

It's in a gas station. (Like our Texas family favorite: Rudy's).  The line to get in went out the door and down the sidewalk.  We waited for 45 minutes to get in.

It was pretty good.  But I don't know if I'd wait that long again.

But I guess we had to try it once, at least.

Sadly, this is the only picture I got of Nate's parents. (And it's only Earl.)  I guess we were too busy doing stuff to take pictures of it all.  I need to be better about that.

Nate enjoyed those ribs!
So it was a good busy weekend.  We enjoyed Vickie and Earl's company.  Next up: a trip to Texas for Thanksgiving!  We are so excited to see our cousins and friends and eat some good tex-mex and get our faves from our favorite grocery store.  Not to mention eat Thanksgiving dinner.

We haven't tried Oklahoma Joe's, but Ryan and I really enjoy Biemer's BBQ here in Lawrence. It's a tiny place, probably at one point (60 yrs ago) a gas station, and decorated in john deere greens and yellows. They're only open until 8pm or until the food runs out for the night. We ordered a whole smoked turkey from them for Thanksgiving, but other than that, I've only had their pulled pork. It's good, but I'm used to Southwest BBQ, which is a lot more wet (like, drenched/cooked in BBQ sauce) than the dry rub KC stuff. But closer than OK Joe's and worth a try! They're by the Merc, behind that car 'dealership'.
