Day 6: Hark! The Herald Angels Sing

A tradition that we do in our family, (that I did in my family growing up too), is carol singing for advent at Christmas time.  On each of the four Sundays before Christmas we light some candles and sing lots and lots of Christmas Carols.

We even have lyric books (courtesy of my sister, Erika, many years ago).  This year we had to just do it from memory the first Sunday -- I have lost a couple Christmas boxes in the move. I have finally found one of the boxes (with the song books) but I am still missing that candle windmill (I am very sad about this). Here's a picture from a long time ago to show the windmill.
So we are doing other candles (not quite the same) but singing nonetheless.

It is funny to hear Toby singing bass (how does such a deep voice come out of such a scrawny boy, I'll never know).  And Hazel can read fast enough to sing the words to the songs she isn't familiar with yet.  Isaac still wants to sing Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer (not an adult favorite) and Hazel always requests singing every. single. verse. of the Twelve Days of Christmas (No starting at 12).
It's one of my favorite Christmas traditions.

When we were in DC last year for Thanksgiving, we went to the Washington Cathedral for the first day of advent - it was pretty cool.
