This is the before picture. It was a little sad. The second one was full of weeds. So I cleared them out and brougght in some compost, manure, and peat moss to build up the soil. Then Hazel helped me to plant the plants and seeds.

We have lots of tomatoes, some peppers and jalapenos, a tomatillo plant, two types of basil, some orange mint, walking onions, and marigolds to help protect the tomatoes from pests.

I love that the director wrote my name in sharpie on the edge of my bed.

We also planted cilantro, onions, beets, carrots, radishes (because they will be all grown in just a month), and something else that I can't recall right now. It will be a surprise I guess.
I wanted to plant sunflowers (since Kansas is the Sunflower State), but they would have shaded the rest of my beds and I wanted the other things more. So it's all about choices I guess. Maybe I'll throw some into the beds at the house. The birds would enjoy those in the fall.
Because the garden is community run, I have to drive over everyday to water my plants. The only water available is out of a couple rain barrels. And they are not right next to the garden. As they are nearly empty, I am hoping for some rain this weekend.
There really is nothing better than getting your hands dirty and enjoying the sunshine.

A community garden sounds lovely - do you meet the other gardeners often?
