Summertime, and the livin' is easy

We've been taking it easy this summer.  Really easy.  The kids stay up late, and sleep in until nearly noon (lots of late meals).  And since I am really behind on blogging, here's a photo summary of a bit of what we're up to.
Isaac makes me laugh and smile and pull my hair out.My watermelon has graffiti courtesy of my 13 year old. I wonder if he will ever outgrow that?
Isaac makes us laugh, even when we're trying to be serious.  And when I went to cut the watermelon at lunch today, I found a little sign that he'd been there. (Do people ever outgrow tagging?)
Aspen's finished seeing projects. She's been working on that lunch bag for almost a year. Feels good to finish projects rather than just start them:)New dress I sewed for aspen. She was so excited to wear it. She couldn't even wait for Sunday to come again.
Aspen finally finished this lunch sack that she started at the end of last summer.  She also designed and sewed that cute yellow and white bag. I sewed up this super easy knit dress for Aspen.  Because she is so tall and slender, I've been having a hard time finding patterns that fit her.  This Simplicity pattern came in a size 4 (hard to find many that small) and so we tried it out.  Fit perfectly (no altering required!) And she was so excited to wear it.  Win/win!
Finished #puzzle. I love the slowness of summer. We finally put all the pieces in the puzzle. Unfortunately, there were a couple missing. #puzzle #eye
I set this puzzle out on the coffee table, and it eventually got finished.  But somehow we misplaced 3 or 4 pieces.
Silly girl. "play with me". She is supposed to be going to bed. How do I defend myself from the cuteness? Our activity day girls wrote a play about the duckling without a talent.
Hazel's sign says, "Play with me!"  This was nearly 10:00 PM.  She was supposed to be going to bed.  But how do you compete with that cuteness?  I am the Activity Days leader in our ward.  All the youth and the primary groups meet on the same night.  And Nate has meetings as well.  So Hazel gets to be an honorary activity days girl. Our girls wrote a cute poem/play called the "Untalented Duckling".  It's about a duckling discovering her talents and showcasing some of the others' talents.  You can watch the video of it here.

Licking the beaters. Chocolate chip cookies taste best this way#teaparty with a friend is the best!
Hazel has learned to make cookies all by herself!  She can read and follow a recipe, mix up the batter, and put them in the oven to bake all on her own.  I'm super proud of her.  She is doing great!  And we've had lots of friends over to pass the time.  It's been way to hot to go outside most days.  We're melting in this heatwave in the midwest.
Hope y'all are enjoying your summer too!
